Less Dreaming More Doing

This weekend I went to the swap meet, and while I was there I met a photographer, Eddy Pula. In the course of our conversation, he asked me what I shot. I could have said right now I am working on studio portraits, but in a moment of embarrassing honesty, I said...
"I'm working on a lot of DIY projects for the studio, and not really shooting anything".  As these things always progress in my head, I asked myself why is that? It is my way of dreaming and barely dipping my toes in the water. it is safe to build a road case, or stick on a box, or telescoping back ground stand, or whatever. I am sitting around planning on creating beautiful images, and not doing a thing about it. Maybe I am afraid to suck, or lazy or whatever. but I am done no more DIY unless it is tied to a specific project that I am going to do. That being said, its studio portraits, and product shots. So here is the plan, I am going to put out the word that I am looking for interesting people to photograph, and I am going to start working. It is a bit of a gamble for my subjects, but not really, because even with my inexperience, I can out do Sears portrait studio any day, and with any luck something much more interesting.   So lets do it.

A little info on the shot from above, it is one of my projects. It is just a 3/4" EMT coupler, that I drilled out and tapped with 1/4-20 threads, and put a thumb screw in. When I put the unmodified side on a 5' piece of 3/4" conduit, and the modified side on a 5' piece of 1/2 it turns into a telescoping pole I can add to a stick on a box, and make a background stand.
